Launch of the new “Madoka Magica” film postponed

On the official website of the original anime “Puella Magi Madoka Magica”, it was announced today that the Japanese theatrical release of the fourth film has been postponed.

The sequel film, which is entitled “Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie -Walpurgis Night: Rising-“, will therefore only be released in Japan towards the end of 2025 for production reasons and not in winter 2024/25 as originally planned. The new evening filler, which takes place after the end of the third film (“Rebellion”), is being directed by Yukihiro Miyamoto (“Fate/Extra: Last Encore”) at Studio SHAFT.

Gen Urobuchi (“Psycho-Pass”) is writing the screenplay, while Junichirou Taniguchi (“Magia Record”) is creating the character designs and Yuki Kajiura (“Demon Slayer”) is composing the music. The accompanying series consists of twelve episodes and ran on Japanese television from January to April 2011.

In October 2012, it was summarized in two compilation films before the sequel entitled “Madoka Magica – The Movie: Rebellion” was released in October 2013. LEONINE Anime released the series and the third movie on DVD and Blu-ray.
